If you haven't heard of Genius Garage, we suggest taking some time to get up to speed. This is a non-profit technical school that aims to give students real-world engineering experience to set them up for careers later in life, and the projects that this school undertakes are very interesting. One of them that is currently in the works is a mid-engine take on the Dodge Viper, but today we're focusing on a completed project. The project we refer to began more than two years ago and saw a 2007 Porsche Boxster S transform into a replica of the highly limited and ridiculously expensive Lykan Hypersport.

As the above video highlights, the car is now complete and runs and drives on its own power. Speaking of power, it would have been far too difficult and much too expensive to attempt reproducing the power figures of the real Lykan Hypersport. The production hypercar's 3.7-liter flat-six has two turbochargers attached to it and produces 780 horsepower and 708 lb-ft of torque while the entry-level Boxster of this era is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.7-liter boxer six that only manages 240 hp. The S model underpinning this Hypersport replica with its 3.4-liter motor made 55 horses more when new. Still, the car has some significance to the original in that the body comes from a genuine replica that was originally built for the stillborn Fast & Furious Live show.

Casey Putsch, founder of Genius Garage, says that his people have not made any molds of the body panels and want to keep this car exclusive and special in its own right. But what will happen to it now? Well, the Boxster platform that underpins this replica is not unrelated to that of the original hypercar, so it's theoretically possible to turn it into a full replica with the matching interior upgrades and performance credentials that a car like this should have. But that's not a job for Genius Garage, as it has served its purpose.

The car is now ready for a new owner, but with no price given, it's difficult to estimate what a rare creation like this is worth, especially since it has valuable provenance but sub-par performance. Either way, we're glad it exists and that the project was completed despite the setbacks of the last two years.
